Misschien ligt het hoogtepunt wat nieuwe albums betreft in 1969 wel gelijk in januari als het debuutalbum Led Zeppelin uitkomt van de gelijknamig legendarische Hard Rock band van Jimmy Page, John Bonham, Robert Plant en John Paul Jones. In het najaar komt het tweede net zo indrukwekkende album uit Led Zeppelin II .The Beatles nemen met Abbey Road hun laatste LP van echt hoge kwaliteit op.

What We Did on Our Holidays het uitstekende album van de Britse Folk groep Fairport Convention zet een stap richting de Folk Rock. Een half jaar later komt het nog betere Unhalfbricking uit. Gevolgd in december door het even briljante Liege & Lief. The Isley Brothers maken met It’s Our Thing een prima Funk plaat. Johnny Cash maakt een van zijn beste platen met zijn live album At San Quentin.

Wat zijn de Beste Albums uit 1969 LP’s?

De Psychedelische soul van The Temptations maak Cloud Nine een bijzonder album. Het debuutalbum van The Flying Burrito Brothers The Gilded Palace of Sin is gelijk een meesterwerk van de Country Rock. Blues Rockers Free debuteren met Tons of Sobs overtuigend. Dusty in Memphis is de briljante Blue Eyed Soul plaat van de Britse zangeres Dusty Springfield, opgenomen in Memphis. Aretha Franklin heeft een goed soul album met Soul ’69. Maart 1968 brengt ons The Velvet Underground van de gelijknamige groep met John Cale en Lou Reed. Bob Dylan brengt met Nashville Skyline een fantastisch Country Rock album uit. De Canadese singer songwriter Joni Mitchell neemt met Clouds een prima tweede paat op. Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere is een meesterwerk van Neil Young en Crazy Horse. The Who brengende rockopera Tommy uit. Voor het eerst zonder Neil Young lukt het Crosby, Stills & Nash om een uitstekende plaat te maken met de gelijknamige titel. Een van de allerbeste country albums ooit is het live opgenomen At San Quentin van Johnny Cash. Avant-Garde hoogtepunt in 1969 is Trout Mask Replica van Captain Beefheart. Elvis Presley duikt in Amerikaanse Country, Rhythm & Blues en Soul en komt met de mooie LP From Elvis in Memphis. Met In a Silent Way brengt jazz-trompettist Miles Davis een opvallend en voor sommigen controversieel album uit. Hij verkent hiermee de grenzen van jazz en rock. Latin rock legende Santana brengt zijn eerste LP uit onder de gelijknamige titel. De Folk zanger Nick Drake maakte drie platen van zeer hoge kwaliteit voordat hij zelfmoord pleegde in 1974. Five Leaves Left is de eerst en het debuut. Het tweede album dat The Band onder dezelfde naam uitbrengt is hun beste! Hot Buttered Soul van Isaac Hayes is een van de briljante soul albums uit de periode eind jaren zestig, begin jaren zeventig. Ook in het najaar van 1969 blijven er albums uitkomen die tot de hoogtepunten uit de muziekgeschiedenis worden gerekend. Denk maar aan In the Court of the Crimson King, het debuutalbum van King Crimson. Ummagumma van Pink Floyd. Niet de beste plaat van de groep, maar toch. Second Winter, het derde album van blues rock gitarist Johnny Winter. Willy and the Poor Boys, stampende Swamp Rock van Creedence Clearwater Revival en al het derde album van de groep in 1969. Het gelijknamige debuut van blues rockers The Allman Brothers Band. Let It Bleed van The Rolling Stones. In december komt ook nog de debuutplaat van de Jackson 5 (met een piepjonge Michael Jackson) uit onder de titel Diana Ross Presents the Jackson 5..
